Workout of the Week 10/21/18
Hello and Happy Sunday everyone!! It’s another week closer to Halloween and we definitely had a good time last night in preparation. I also realized how important functional fitness is to everyday health. This Workout of the Week uses one movement I definitely use daily as a mom.Holding a 40lb toddler on your hip and being able to multitask, even walk for long distances with the added weight comes in handy. Let's be honest most of us moms have to be able to handle a lot of things including our children. It is our fitness that helps us keep up with our children, our work, our household duties, and everything else we have going on. If I wasn’t in the shape I am in I would be exhausted and feel bad that my kids don’t get to do all the things I want them to do.Last night we took Shamar to Owl-o-Ween Festival here in town and it was huge and while yes, my son can walk and yes my husband does help carry him. Sometimes my son just wants me to hold him as well as carry him. He isn’t light and add my purse and maneuvering through a large crowd isn’t always easy. But we had a blast and that’s all that matters. This workout is all about functional movements for mom!
Movements
The only equipment needed will be a med ball, or medicine ball. This is the one I prefer. The first movement is a run or walks with a med ball. This simple movement mimics exactly what I was previously saying. It’s a real-life movement that we do all the time. Practice makes perfect right.Tuck jumps are a simple movement. As you jump up your knees then tuck up to your chest. And then the last two movements are sit-ups and push-ups. Basic movements to keep you moving and your body working.
Workout of the Week
4 Rounds for Time
- 400m Run with Med ball
- 25 Tuck jumps
- 25 Sit-ups
- 25 Push-ups
Scaling options would be to walk as well as lower the weight of the med ball. If the tuck jumps are too difficult, instead try just bringing one leg up as high as you can at a time. Push-ups can be scaled down to the knee or even at an angle against a table or bench. As always I hope you enjoy and work hard but be safe!
