I Survived Open Workout 20.2
Y'all this has been an insane week! I completed CrossFit Open Workout 20.2 on Friday morning and I survived. To be honest, I did better than I expected and at the same time I feel like I could have done better.
This workout was a long and tedious workout that I had absolutely no desire to repeat even though I feel like I could have done better. Is underpacing a thing?
If so I am guilty.
CrossFit Open Workout 20.2
So last Thursday the workout was announced and again I saw it about an hour before the workout. But here it is:
20 Min AMRAP
- 4 DB thruster
- 6 Toe-to-Bar
- 24 Double Unders
RX weight was 50lb DBs for men and 35lb DB for women. Scaling it brought men to 35lb DBs and women to 20lb DBs.
Scales for toe-to-bar was knee raises and double unders went straight to singles at the same number.
This is very low rep movements over a long period of time. Pacing was definitely key.
How I did the workout
So I decided to scale this workout. I realize that my overall score on the leaderboard would go down but I also knew a score of 4 wouldn’t get me very far.
I decided to treat this like a test considering I’m not in the same shape I was last year. I wanted to see how well I could pace my myself in a 20 minute long workout.
Pacing is hard for me but something I’m trying to work on.
I didn’t have an overall round goal I just wanted to maintain a relatively consistent pace throughout the whole workout. I ended up completing 16 full rounds and 5 reps. And I did a good job of maintaining a good pace.
However, I should have pushed the pace a bit harder. Besides ripping my hands, my body wasn’t in too bad of shape after the workout. I had some sore quads, but that was to be expected.
My transitions were too long simply because my equipment was far away from each other. But other than that I didn’t break very often. Chalk here and there.
Looking back I should have pushed the pace and gone faster at the end. I also should have better placed my equipment.
Tips, Tricks and Thoughts
So I realize that 20.2 is over and at this point even 20.3 have been announced. However if anyone plans to redo it at another time or we get too see it repeated in the future.
First thing to consider is placement. Transition time will be critical for this workout as there so many. You will want as little space as possible between each setup.
Next, pacing is going to be critical. Don’t go out too hot that you fatigue too quickly. And you don’t want your movements to fall apart. Break up your toes-to-bar if you need to.
You won’t want to break the thrusters since there are only 4 reps. And breaking the Double unders won’t be ideal but understandable if you have trouble stringing them together.
There are going to be a large number of reps! So be prepared to be sore. Just keep moving! Don't forget to check out last weeks update on 20.1.
Until next time!
