How to Get and Stay Motivated to Workout when you're Stuck at Home
With almost the entire world practicing social distancing and staying in their homes, many people's fitness has suffered. As a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and avid at-home workout promotor, I have some tips and tricks to help get and stay motivated to workout when you're stuck at home.
Let's be honest, when you're working from home, most of us don't even get out of our PJs all day.
Or you have kids running around trying to do online schooling, and playing and eating. You might even be like me, trying to work from home, raise/teach your kid, do school work and run a side business.
Life can get crazy.
Why is doing At-home Workouts so Important?
Maintaining our overall health at this time is crucial. Not only do we not want to get fat and lazy, but healthier individuals have a better chance of surviving the virus.
Right now gyms are closing everywhere. Personal trainers worldwide are offering at-home workout options to help not only their clients but everyone.
At-home workouts, just like at a gym can be scaled to your fitness level. I will work on getting a post up about some available options for at-home workouts soon. Until then check out our Workout of the Week page for all the ones we offer for Free!!
How to Get and Stay Motivated to Workout when you're Stuck at Home
So now we are going to go over several different ways to get and stay motivated to workout at home.
Create a Separate Workout space
This can be done in several different ways. If you have a basement or garage space that you can set up a workout space that is great. I mean #garagegyms is a popular hashtag on Instagram right now.
Or you can simply use a room in your home. At first, I was going to use my office. But after careful consideration, I realized I am stuck there all day and I wanted more room. My living room has the space I need and access to the back porch if I need it.
Whatever works at your house, make it work. Keep all your equipment in one place.
Use what Equipment you have
So many people are running to the stores to get their last bit of food, and household staples, but surprisingly enough so his the fitness equipment. I even re-shared my post on 5 Best Items For Your At Home Gym For under $50.
But guess what sometimes you just have to use what you have. Got empty gallon milk jugs? Fill it up with water or sand to create weights. Do you have a chair or stool you can use as a box to step up on or to do bench dips.
And don't forget your body! Bodyweight movements can be done anywhere at any time!! Push-ups, Sit-ups, Squats and so much more!!
Designate a specific time
You might now I am a stickler for a routine, but they work. Routines help keep you motivated and keep you going.
Designate a specific time to workout. It can be in the morning before the kids get up and before you have to turn on your computer. Or at "lunch" time. Or even at night after you have put the kids to bed.
Just make sure to pencil it into your calendar and actually follow through. Create a schedule. Create a routine.
Share with friends and social media
Share your goals and accomplishments with your friends. You can't see them in person, but you can still communicate.
If your friends don't care then find people who will motivate you and hold you accountable online. Join our Facebook Page.
Join other Facebook groups. Follow inspiring people on Instagram. Share your workouts with others.
Lastly, Create a Journal tracker
Whether to handwriting things or digitally tracking keep a journal. By tracking your fitness journey, you are keeping yourself accountable.
You can see when you feel better and look better, how you achieved it. You can see when you have an issue with your nutrition how that makes you feel. And when you miss a day you can track that as well.
I am an avid Happy Calendar girl and try to track everything I do. You can check out how I use my calendar at How to Organize your Calendar for Busy Moms.
Don't Quit
I know these are crazy times for all of us. But Don't Quit!!!
Our health is more important than ever. Just remember to create a specific space and create a routine and stick to it.
I realize things happen, kids wake up in the middle of the night or work is extra crazy right now. But make sure to set aside time to get some sort of movement done every day.
